Concept & Objectives

FT’s Markets Data & Research platform is a widely loved and trusted resource for financial professionals and enthusiasts alike, providing deep insights into global markets, economies, and financial trends as it relates to world news and events, and commentary. While it doesn’t give users the ability to trade, its powerful portfolio tools allow users to keep track of their investments and experiment with hypothetical trades.

Roles

While at IHS Markit Digital, I designed components and page layouts for FT’s Markets Data & Research platform, emphasizing clarity and usability on desktop and mobile screens.

UI Designer

Design page layouts and components, adding new functionality and enhancing existing features, working under a design lead and alongside our in-house development team to ensure accuracy.

Client Relations

Maintained a strong relationship with client stakeholders to ensure the product met their needs with weekly meetings and regular updates.

Outcomes

  • Uplifted a few sections to utilize a newer design system already in use in other places across the FT, including fully responsive layouts for desktop and mobile.
  • Evolution of advanced charting capabilities from simple line charts to more complex technical indicators and drawing tools, comparable to state-of-the-art retail brokerage platforms.
  • Added customizable header widgets for users to track various stats for equities, currencies, and bonds.
  • Integration of Markit Digital’s MIND data, utilizing Smart Text to briefly summarize portfolio activity.
  • Addition of Goals feature to Portfolio tools to help users track and achieve their financial objectives.
  • Refreshed news aggregation for individual stocks and indices.
